Not-a-blog archives, Bonn entries: October 2003 Haribo’s Conkers From the 30 October online edition of a Bonn local paper, General-Anzeiger: Verkehrschaos in Bad Godesberg: Bei Haribo werden Kastanien und Eicheln gegen Süßigkeiten getauscht. Der große Ansturm der Tauschwilligen legt den Verkehr auf und rund um die Friesdorfer Straße lahm. (Road chaos in Bad Godesberg: They are trading sweets for conkers and acorns at Haribo. The crush of prospective traders has brought traffic in and around Friesdorfer Strasse to a standstill.) This is an annual event. Haribo swap 10 kg of conkers or 5 kg of acorns for 1 kg of their sweets. Needless to say, Bonn children go mad at this time of year collecting the nuts, which apparently go to feed deer and wild boar in Goldbear tycoon Hans Riegel junior’s private wildlife reserve up the road. Update (October 31): Today’s General-Anzeiger Online features this article: Auf die lange Anfahrt folgen süße Tage (Sweet days after the long drive there). Apparently the lucky animals are on Riegel’s hunt in Styria, Austria. Werner Koczwara 28 October: Went to see Werner Koczwara at the Springmaus in Endenich last night. Kozwara is a stand-up act who has discovered the rich vein of comedy inherent in the German legal system. If your German’s fluent it’s well worth going to see him, because he’s very funny and doesn’t just deliver the same old lawyer jokes. Nice line in black humour, too. Incidentally, the ‘neues Programm’ in the tour dates on Koczwara’s web site appears to be the one we saw, ‘Tyrannosaurus Recht.’ It’s also worth mentioning that Springmaus now does non-smoker nights for every programme. |
